THE Mbombela Municipality will use Sunday's international friendly between Bafana Bafana and Thailand to officially open the new 2010 World Cup match venue.

THE Mbombela Municipality will use Sunday's international friendly between Bafana Bafana and Thailand to officially open the new 2010 World Cup match venue.

Thailand, ranked 105 by Fifa, did not qualify for the World Cup but Safa are confident the match will assist Bafana Bafana during their preparations.

Kick off is at 3.30pm.

Mbombela Municipality were initially planning to officially open the stadium on Saturday but have decided to merge the celebrations with the 90-Fifa ranked Bafana Bafana match.

"We are excited to have secured a big match to officially open the stadium and test its readiness for the World Cup," said Mbombela Municipality World Cup director Differ Mogale.

Safa chief Leslie Sedibe said Bafana Bafana will play four international friendly matches before the World Cup in June.

"We have worked tirelessly to ensure that we secure four international friendly matches as requested by the coach and his technical team," he said.

"We believe that these international friendlies will give the team an opportunity to take their experiences of the Brazil and Germany training camps to another level.

"We are also grateful this fixture will officially open Mbombela stadium."

Tickets for Sunday's match go on sale today at Computicket outlets and Shoprite Checkers stores for R40.

Bafana Bafana will play Bulgaria on May 24, Columbia three days later and Denmark on June 5.

All matches will be broadcast live on SABC," said Sedibe.

l Meanwhile, the Mpumalanga Premier's Cup that will feature Kaizer Chief, Mbabane Swallows from Swaziland and Ferroviario from Mozambique will be played on May 22.
