STORMERS CAN WIN BREATHING SPACE

WHEN the Stormers run out on to the Kings Park pitch for their clash with the Sharks tomorrow night they have everything to play for.

A home semifinal beckons and if they can hold it together for this match and pick up a win, they can go into next Saturday's home encounter against the Bulls with a bit of cushion on the log table.

Hit by the withdrawal of star winger Bryan Habana - who hurt his ribs last weekend against the Crusaders - coach Allister Coetzee has opted for youngster Tim Whitehead.

Some good news for the Stormers is the number of players who are returning from injury at such a crucial part of the season. Conrad Jantjes is just about match-ready after a long layoff and Joe Pietersen is included on the bench for tomorrow's ties.

Meanwhile, for the Lions it's their last home game of the season when they face the Blues at Ellis Park Stadium, Johannesburg, tomorrow kicking off at 3pm.

Even with their season long lost, Lions coach Dick Muir has kept changes to a minimum with Franco van der Merwe and Gert Muller back in the playing XV.

"We missed Franco last week for his work rate and presence in the line-outs," Muir said.

"(The Blues) are a very good side in open play so we have to be on our toes. We can't afford to give them any go-forward or concede any silly penalties."
