Proteas need to lift game

WHILE taking confidence out of yesterday morning's win over minnows Afghanistan in the ICC World Twenty20 in the West Indies, coach Corrie van Zyl and the South African cricket team will know they have a lot of hard work ahead of them.

WHILE taking confidence out of yesterday morning's win over minnows Afghanistan in the ICC World Twenty20 in the West Indies, coach Corrie van Zyl and the South African cricket team will know they have a lot of hard work ahead of them.

The 59-run win looked comfortable on paper but anything less would have sounded the alarm bells in the Proteas camp.

As it is, there would have been concern about the low scores of top batsmen Graeme Smith (27), Jacque Kallis (34) and JP Duminy (25).

They had little time to work on their shortcomings before facing the in-form New Zealand last night, but would have taken confidence in the performance of their bowlers against Afghanistan.

Dale Steyn and Albie Morkel both bowled fiery spells.

FIXTURES
