THE cabinet will not punish President Jacob Zuma for failing to declare his interests in time.

Public protector Thulisile Madonsela found last month that Zuma had breached the code by missing the deadline to declare his interests - by eight months.

The Executive Members' Ethics Code says all ministers, including the president, must declare their interests within 60 days of being appointed to office. Yesterday government spokesperson Themba Maseko blamed gaps in the code for Zuma's error.
