FORMER Bafana Bafana coach Clive "The Dog" Barker will show no fatherly love to his nephew tomorrow night.
The AmaZulu technical adviser will be on the opposing bench against his nephew, Steve Barker, in a Nedbank Cup quarterfinal clash at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.
Kickoff is at 8.15pm.
Steve's University of Pretoria, alias AmaTuks, are in the quarterfinals of the competition and some pundits and commentators have tipped them to reach the the final.
They achieved the same feat last year, but could not get past Moroka Swallows, who won 1-0 in the final.
Steve told Sowetan on Monday that he would like nothing better than to knock AmaZulu out of the lucrative competition.
He also said that it was time for a new Barker to make his mark in local football.
But Uncle Clive shot back: "Tell him I said when you are young you are pretty and when you're old you're ugly, but this old dog will not just lie down and roll over. If he were to win I'd congratulate him, but it's not going to happen.
But, the veteran coach admitted that his nephew had a bright coaching career ahead of him.
"He is a starter but has shown that he can coach. He has done well because he has played in the final before. He also lost some very good players and has done well to rebuild the side," the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations-winning said yesterday.
Clive added that there will be no time for pleasantries tomorrow.
"I won't go out of my way to greet him before the match but after the match I'll go over to say 'hello Steve'," he said.
Steve said: "We will play our own brand of football because sitting back will be a mistake. If we wait for them they'll hurt us.
"I talk to Clive and he tells me to do my own thing. He is a fighter and I appreciate his advice."
