Justice Minister Jeff Radebe has signed a performance agreement with President Jacob Zuma committing himself to wiping out corruption and reducing violent crime.

Radebe made the announcement yesterday when he delivered his budget vote speech in Parliament.

When Zuma appointed Minister for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Collins Chabane last year, the president promised that cabinet ministers would sign performance agreements - and would be punished if they did not deliver.

The minister did not confirm that he would resign if he did not perform, but said "if there is no performance, there has to be censure".

Radebe also announced that Limpopo and Mpumalanga would soon be getting their own high courts.
