Nedbank Cup final ticket sales rocket

WHETHER it is due to the aura of Soccer City or sheer cup final excitement, sales of Nedbank Cup final tickets are rocketing.

WHETHER it is due to the aura of Soccer City or sheer cup final excitement, sales of Nedbank Cup final tickets are rocketing.

By the end of business yesterday, the figure stood at 21520, with the promise of further improvement before the end of the week.

It's still unknown who will be playing at the World Cup centrepiece in the May 22 finals, but only one of the three PSL big guns can make the final.

The draw has not been kind to the organisers as crowd-pullers Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns will be battling it out for a semifinal spot on Sunday, while First Division minnows FC Cape Town and Pretoria University still stand an equal chance of making the finals.

Notwithstanding the fact that the finalists are yet to be determined, tickets for the R6million decider have already gone on sale as part of the marketing ploy to ensure a sell-out crowd. PSL chief executive Kjetil Siem has already admitted it will be difficult to fill the 90000-seat stadium without known PSL drawcards in the finals.

A weekly planning meeting was held at the PSL yesterday and logistically, indications are that everything remains on track.

The game could be the first official match to be played at the rebuilt World Cup venue, should Safa opt for a different venue for their planned Bafana Bafana international friendly match on May 16, probably against China.
