STEVE Komphela will still be in charge of Platinum Stars next season despite the side's poor display in 2009-10.

There was talk recently that Komphela would not be Stars coach next season after the side's doleful display under his mentorship last term.

But Stars managing director George Khunou dismissed such talk yesterday, stressing that the philosophical mentor was staying put in Rustenburg.

He also warned rival teams that Stars would turn things around next season.

"We will challenge for league honours under Steve Komphela and there is no doubt that we are going to be unstoppable," said the Stars supremo yesterday.

"We struggled in the past season but Steve has told us how he'd like us to help and we'll give him all the support he needs.

"The team is now based in Phokeng and has all the best facilities and we'll compete hard in the new season."

Khunou also said they will be focusing on youth development as they would like the team to be representative of the Phokeng people.

"In four or five years, 80percent of our players will be from Phokeng and the surrounding areas. Now that the season is over, our scouts are busy looking for talent that can come for the technical team to have a look at," he said.

Khunou also said they hope to entice the England team, which is expec-ted in the country in the first week of June, to take part in community projects.

"It will depend on how busy they are but it would be very nice if they can visit villages in Phokeng."
