JAZZ trumpeter Feya Faku will launch his fourth offering in style on May 8 at Darkie Café in Joburg.

Titled Homage the offering was recorded live in September 2008 while Faku was an artist in residence at the Bird's Eye Jazz Club in Basel, Switzerland.

In his latest album Faku pays tribute to some of the legends of South African music. The young musician has acknowledge the influence these musicians have had on his life, among them the likes of Duke Makasi and Barney Rachabane.

The album was recorded during a cultural exchange programme with the Netherlands.

Produced by Eric van der Westen, the album was recorded at Edgetip Recording Studios in Arnhem.

"Eric arranged a cultural exchange programme for me to go to Holland," Faku recalls. " Before I left Eric had asked me what I was up to as far as composing was concerned. Was writing songs?

"Fortunately I had some music, so I took it with me to the Netherlands. He went about organising for me to get the recording done."

Since his debut in 1999, in which he collaborated with Dutch musicians, Faku has become one of the country's most sought after musicians.

He is one of those local artists who performed more outside than in South Africa.

Faku will feature Mthunzi Mvubu on saxophones, Nduduzo Makhathini on piano, Herbie Tsoaeli on contrabass and Ayanda Sikade on drums.
