Several local traditional music DJs will embark on a trip to three nations that have qualified for the World Cup to give potential visitors a taste of indigenous South African music.

The initiative is part of the South African Traditional Music Awards (Samta) 2010 Siyabalanda Campaign (Let's fetch them).

The delegation, which will be led by Samta founder Dumisani Goba, leaves today. Goba will be accompanied by Ukhozi FM DJ Khathide Ngobe.

Those who will be going next week will be confirmed this weekend. They will visit Accra in Ghana, Sao Paulo in Brazil and Washington in the US. The DJs will return back home on May 25.

Samta project coordinator Thuthukile Goba said the delegation would meet with traditional leaders and cultural groups to "further promote our traditional music internationally".

"Samta awards want to expose our traditional music to international markets as a build-up to the Fifa World Cup.

"Through live broadcasts of various traditional music radio programmes, international listeners will get a taste of our indigenous music and we challenge all South Africans to join us in our efforts and show the world that we take pride in our heritage," Goba said.

Samtas spokesperson Joe Mafela said the trip would expose our traditional music to other countries. "Our DJs will not only play traditional music, but will engage in cultural activities of other people, which will be a good learning experience and an opportunity to deepen what unites and bring us together as human beings."
