WITH 35 days to go before the kickoff of the Fifa 2010 World Cup, a further 200000 tickets have been made available.

Addressing the Gauteng sports committee in the legislature yesterday, the Local Organising Committee's Greg Fredericks said: "We are approaching 90percent of ticket sales for the World Cup.

"Most of the tickets that are available are for matches in Mbombela, Polokwane and Nelson Mandela Bay."

Fredericks said most matches in Gauteng were already sold out.

Fifa's ticketing sub-committee chairperson Horst Schmidt said: "We have crossed an important line with 2,5million tickets out of 2,85million sold."

Schmidt said about 1,5million tickets were sold to South Africans, while the rest went to international fans.

This process has seen additional tickets become available for some of the matches in Cape Town and Durban.

But the opening match, the first-round match between Brazil and Portugal, the two semifinals and the final are all sold out.
