"We are excited to have signed a top coach of Sunday's calibre because the man has massive African and international football experience," Stars general manager Rantsi Mokoena said.
Chidzambwa was offered a two-year contract to replace Gordon Igesund.
The Zimbabwean mentor is in Bethlehem and was introduced to Stars players at a training session yesterday by club chairperson Mike Mokoena.
"Sunday might be new to South African football but he is familiar with the set-up after following our matches on television," continued Mokoena junior. "We had a long chat with him to explain that we needed a coach who will transform Stars into a well-oiled machine that will challenge for the league honours.
"We are sick and tired of fighting relegation and we have made it clear to Sunday we will get him any player he wants.
"We have always done well with Zimbabwean coaches, including the late Peter Nyama and Roy Barreto," Mokoena said.
Chidzambwa said: "I have a clear picture of South African football, I have been following the developments on television and one is also excited to be in the country that will host the World Cup.
"I have met the current crop of players at the club and we had a short meeting where I explained to them that we needed to work as a unit for the success of Stars."
Chidzambwa, a former Warriors captain, became the first coach to help Zimbabwe qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia in 2004. The former director of coaching for Zimbabwean football giants Dynamos worked as a coach in Zimbabwe for 26 years.
Stars skipper Duncan "King" Lechesa told Sowetan yesterday they were looking forward to working with Chidzambwa.
"I know his record and he is such a good coach," Lechesa said.
