Ekurhuleni needs 600 cup volunteers

Ekurhuleni residents have a chance of being part of the 2010 Fifa World Cup. The metro is looking for 600 volunteers to help in marketing, as park wardens and in health and park-and-ride facilities.

Ekurhuleni residents have a chance of being part of the 2010 Fifa World Cup. The metro is looking for 600 volunteers to help in marketing, as park wardens and in health and park-and-ride facilities.

Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said: "Volunteers will be deployed to the three public viewing areas in Ekurhuleni, which will be in Kwa-Thema, Tembisa and Katlehong. Volunteers will also be required to work at the OR Tambo Airport; Welcome Village at Dries Niemandt Park; Isando (Rhodesfield) station and the Kempton Park station."

People who are interested should send in their CVs to the civic centres in their areas by tomorrow.

Volunteers will receive a stipend of R100 a day to pay for transport as well as a R30 meal voucher a day while they are working. At the end of the June 11 to July 11 tournament they will receive further payment.

Dlamini said: "A short-listing and interviewing process would be applicable and all volunteers would be issued with a commitment contract. All volunteers would have to attend all training and induction workshops required for all scheduled days.

"A stipend of R100 a day will be paid for the duration of training."

Other conditions of the programme are that all volunteers will:

lReceive an Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality volunteers uniform;

lWork a minimum of eight hours and a maximum of 12 hours a day;

lBe entitled to a 30-minute lunch break;

lBe required to work 25 days for the duration of the event; and

lReceive a certificate acknowledging their participation
