Lekota 'nears end of the road'

THE end may be near for Mosiuoa Lekota as leader and founding president of Congress of the People.

THE end may be near for Mosiuoa Lekota as leader and founding president of Congress of the People.

Supporters of Cope deputy president Mbhazima Shilowa say Lekota's days as leader are numbered, despite his apology after accusing Shilowa of mismanaging the party's coffers.

Shilowa's supporters were claiming victory this week ahead of the party's first elective conference later this month.

A leader of the Cope Youth Movement, which is actively campaigning for Shilowa to oust Lekota, told Sowetan yesterday there was no stopping the "Shilowa Express".

Political analyst Somadoda Fikeni said Lekota's initial outburst last week came as a result of Cope structures endorsing Shilowa for the presidential race.
