Mopani district executive mayor Joshua Matlou said a Greening Limpopo programme, which was introduced by Premier Cassel Mathale would bring a new lease of life to poor families in the province.

The programme was officially launched by Mathale and public works MEC George Phadagi earlier this year. Matlou launched the district programme at GaSekgopo, Moshate, outside Modjadjiskloof in Limpopo, on Friday.

Matlou was accompanied Greater Letaba municipality, City Modjadji mayor, traditional leaders and councillors from districts and municipalities in the area.

Matlou announced that the Greening Limpopo programme would create 7000 new job opportunities for local people. He said the programme was supported by the Phalaborwa Mining Company at a total cost of R600000.

The money would be used to buy trees to be distributed to households in the district.

Each family would be given seven trees, four of which would be fruit trees.

The programme was also launched at Belleview on Friday, where acting mayor Mogale Masela planted some trees at the local clinic.
