THE SA Transport and Allied Workers Union said yesterday it had a mandate to embark on strike action at Transnet.

The other union represented at Transnet, the United Transport and Allied Trade Union, would have its mandating process completed by today, the unions said in a joint statement.

"All indications are that Utatu will also receive a full mandate."

The strike, in support of wage demands, is scheduled for May 10.

The unions represent 85percent of the 50000 Transnet employees in all its divisions and at the head office. - Sapa
