Freedom a word for 'nothing left to lose'

CELEBRATING Freedom Day means nothing if the majority of people who voted in 1994 still live in dire conditions.

We all need to admit that very little has been achieved 16 years down the line. People are concerned about what affects their lives and not about skewed paper statistics.

I agree with some political leaders who say corruption is taking this country nowhere and if the status quo remains come 2014 we will still have poor service delivery.

It is the poor who bear the heaviest cost, while those in government continue to squander taxpayers' money.

The government must act swiftly in identifying and uprooting the seed of this calamity.
