This after Selebi repeatedly referred to a notepad he said his wife had prepared over the long weekend.
The document detailed the Selebi's household expenditure for 2004 and 2005.
"Somebody prepared you for cross-examination, Mr Selebi . your wife and yourself discussed the KPMG report and looked at your expenses to see why there was a dip in expenditure (in December 2004 to April 2005)," Nel said.
"Over the weekend, while under oath, you discussed the matter with your wife . Why?" he asked.
Selebi replied that he had discussed details of his household expenditure with his wife "because I was trying to get answers from my wife . she who was intimately involved in household matters".
When Nel put it to him that he knew he "can't discuss matters while under oath", Selebi said he was trying to "get to grips with evidence given to court".
"You have no respect for court by doing so," Nel said.
He was cross-examining Selebi on his financial affairs, particularly the dip in expenses around the time convicted drug trafficker Glenn Agliotti claimed to have given him R300000 cash.
Selebi has denied receiving the money from Agliotti.
He said his household expenditure went down after he fixed leaking water pipes at his home - and that his wife had not used their credit cards or chequebook as his wife had used vouchers from the Taiwanese embassy to buy food in bulk. - Sapa
