Top marks for Copa final

KAIZER Chiefs striker Mandla Masango has given Coca-Cola the thumbs up for their continuous support for the development of school sports nationally.

He was speaking at the final of the Copa Coca-Cola Football Stars competition at Alexandra Stadium on Monday, where Johannesburg Secondary School pipped Seiphemelo from North West 3-2.

Masango, a product of the same development programme, said he hoped Coca-Cola's relationship with competition organisers, the South African Schools Football Association (Sasfa), would grow from strength to strength.

"The standard of football produced by both finalists was impressive. I have no doubt that the players have won the hearts of the scouts from professional sides," he said.

Masango, 20, was spotted during the 2006 edition of the national Under-15 competition by a team of selectors that included Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo.

He was part of the 15-member squad that was selected to tour Europe in the same year.

Sasfa general secretary Steve Pila commended all the participants and local organising committee for making the tournament a success.

Orlando Pirates defender Happy Jele was among the spectators at Monday's exciting final.
