These are branches called agencies and service branches that normally have less than than 10 people working in them.
Sieg Maier, FNB's provincial executive in Free State and Northern Cape, said running the branches was not viable.
"Initially 228 people were affected by the closure but we have been able to reduce that figure to only 64," Maier said.
"We will work hard to ensure that the 64 are deployed in the vacancies within expanding FNB branches," he added.
He said customers would still be able to withdraw cash using ATMs, and make cash and cheque deposits using the Automated Deposit Taking Machines.
But the Moses Kotane branch of the SACP in Dealesville, Free State, will hold a march today against the closure of the branch.
The outlets to be closed include Bethulie in Free State, and Diamond Pavillion and Warrenton in Northern Cape. - Penwell Dlamini
