Festival will set Swaziland on fire

WIDELY known for her colourful reed dance and pure maidens, Swaziland will for a change be in the news for a music festival.

WIDELY known for her colourful reed dance and pure maidens, Swaziland will for a change be in the news for a music festival.

Things will hot up in the tranquil kingdom when the three-day Bush Fire Festival, which includes theatre, art and multicultural events, runs from Friday May 28 until Sunday May 30.

Taking place for the third year running, the kingdom will play host to star talents such as BLK JKS, The Parlotones, Babu and Moreira Project, and Freshlyground.

The festival will be held at the House-on-Fire, a lively outdoor club in the picturesque Malkems Valley.

Bush Fire has so far generated more than R325000 for an HIV-Aids NGO and, with the country's tourism authority and arts and culture ministry, has established a platform for emerging artists.

Swazi-born British actor and festival patron Richard E Grant comments: "Music and drama feed the soul and imagination like nothing else. Bush Fire aims to spread that message like wildfire."
