THERE wasn't enough space to swing a cat at Carnival City's Big Top Arena where legendary Caiphus Semenya performed with the allure of a statesman and the swagger of a Sophiatown gita.

THERE wasn't enough space to swing a cat at Carnival City's Big Top Arena where legendary Caiphus Semenya performed with the allure of a statesman and the swagger of a Sophiatown gita.

Throngs of people converged on the sleepy Boksburg to witness greatness in motion as Thandiswa Mazwai and Semenya recorded their live DVDs.

Theo Kgosinkwe got the show started with a lively performance, gyrating on stage with great dexterity, much to the delight of the audience.

Kgosinkwe played a selection of songs from his solo effort but it was his work with Mafikizolo that got the audience on their feet with cult single Ndihamba Nawe.

Mazwai graced the stage in traditional garb, rousing the ancestors with her ululating chants. She burned imphepho before the show and it seemed the ancestors heeded her call

She blessed the audience with resounding performances from her latest album, Ibokwe, before switching to material from her first album, Zabalaza .

She then brought the crowd to its feet with Ndi Linde. The house erupted again when Tshepo Tshola took to the stage. Mazwai's Bongo Maffin bandmates Stoan, Speedy and Jah Seed performed Thathi Sgubhu with the audience singing along.

The audience was in awe and sang along as Semenya pined for Nomalanga.

It was a nostalgic journey as he commanded the audience with a capable band which included legendary guitarist, Khaya Mahlangu. By the time Semenya performed Ziphi'Nkomo and Mmatswalethe audience was in seventh heaven.
