FIRST Division League outfit C Cape Town caused a major upset when they bundled giants Kaizer Chiefs out of the Nedbank Cup.

Inspired by the ever-singing supporters of Bloemfontein Celtic, who were backing them throughout the match, FC Cape Town beat Amakhosi 2-0 at Botshabelo Stadium yesterday.

Their coach Jozef Vukusic praised his charges for playing according to instructions to end Chiefs' dream of featuring in a final at the upgraded Soccer City.

"It is not child's play to beat Kaizer Chiefs, whom I regard as one of the big clubs in Africa. The plan was to keep it tight at the back to frustrate Chiefs and it worked," said Vukusic.

"Our defence was fantastic. We are going to rest for two weeks, which will enable us to recharge batteries. We want to do well in this tournament."

Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic accepted defeat like a man by saying FC Cape Town deserved the win, though he was unhappy with the ultra-defensive approach.

"It was one of those days when you could not do anything. They (FC Cape Town) deserve to win. They won the match. Everything is okay and I wish them good luck.

"We will be back next season, it will be better for us."

This is the second time Chiefs are knocked out of this cup after being ousted by eventual silver medallists Pretoria University 4-3 last season.

Lyle Lakay netted the first goal in the 18th minute and Samuel Eboule Bille doubled the lead with a powerful header in the 64th minute.

l In Johannesburg, University of Pretoria defeated Jomo Cosmos 4-2 on penalties at Rand Stadium yesterday, reports Meshack Khotha.

Full time and extra time was 1-1. This was the last official match for Ezenkosi in the Premiership. They move to the First Division next season.
