SO TAXI operators are furious about being bypassed for business opportunities in the coming World Cup tournament.

SO TAXI operators are furious about being bypassed for business opportunities in the coming World Cup tournament.

They said as much during a march on the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Wednesday.

This week's march marks years of rumbling within the taxi industry, triggered by perpetual disagreements between various taxi bodies and the government over the recapitalisation programme as well as the bus rapid transit system.

It is not difficult to fathom why the organisers of the Fifa World Cup would not touch the unstable - if not disorganised - sector with a barge pole.

For the industry has been its own worst enemy, failing not only to see the wood for the trees but also refusing to step into the modern era by embracing change.

So, few tears will be shed for them in the public arena for missing the World Cup bus.
