THE National Assembly's communications committee agreed on a shortlist of six candidates for a vacancy on the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa.

THE National Assembly's communications committee agreed on a shortlist of six candidates for a vacancy on the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa.

The vacancy will be available when Icasa chairperson Paris Mashile's term of office ends in June.

The candidates are Lahlang Shirley Somo, Dr Norman Tinyiko Baloyi, Linda Dalbock, Tshepo Molai, Dr Alison Gillwald, and Dr Stephen Sipho Mncube.

Committee chairperson Ismail Vadi said yesterday he was pleased there was full consensus among all political parties on the committee on the shortlist.

Altogether 91 nominations had been received.

Three other vacancies will be available later this year, and the committee is expected to fill these after the mid-year parliamentary recess.

The present batch of nominees are automatically eligible for the second leg of the process, and need not re-apply for the positions. - Sapa
