GUNNING FOR GLORY

"GUNNING For Glory", to be jointly presented by African Ring and Golden Gloves Promotions, has been finalised.

"GUNNING For Glory", to be jointly presented by African Ring and Golden Gloves Promotions, has been finalised.

Golden Gloves spokesperson Terry Pettifer yesterday said promoters Jeff Ellis and Rodney Berman's tournament will take place at Emperors Palace on Tuesday night. He said the tournament would be a box-and-dine event.

"Judging by the product mix, fans can expect breathtaking fights," Pettifer said.

Heading the line-up will be Thomas "Tommy Gun" Oosthuizen, who takes on Saul Roman in a non-title fight scheduled for 10 rounds. They meet in the super middleweight division.

This will be Oosthuizen's third international fight since he turned professional in 2008. He outpointed Cleber Argente Alves from Brazil and Ghanaian Thomas Awinbono both over 10 rounds on September 12 and in February.

Oosthuizen, the current IBO International and WBA Pan Africa super middleweight holder, is undefeated after 10 wins (7 KOs). He is under the tutelage of accomplished mentor Harold Volbrecht.

Roman, a former Mexican junior middleweight champion, is vastly experienced. He has had 38 fights, won 32 (27 KOs) and lost six.

Then there will be Johnny "Hurricane" Muller and Chaz "Bad News" Wasserman, who will both make their debut.

The two fighters are also trained by Volbrecht. Muller will fight Paty Mogenda over four rounds in the heavyweight class, while Wasserman will take on Benny Nkanyane in the super middleweight division, also over four rounds.

Heavyweight crowd-puller Flo "The Demolition Man" Simba will fight Wiseman Dlomo over six rounds, while Bongani Dlamini will meet Takalani Dangala over 10 rounds in the lightweight class.

Zolani "Untouchable" Marali will attempt to get back on the winning streak when he faces menacing knockout artist Kgotla "Bang Bang" Baeti over 10 rounds in a lightweight bout.
