KFC backs mini cricket

KFC is the new sponsor of mini cricket after signing a five-year renewable deal with Cricket South Africa (CSA) in Johannesburg yesterday.

The sponsorship will enable CSA to bring critical new energies and bigger funding to harness the full potential they need to make cricket a truly national sport of winners.

CSA chief executive Gerald Majola said it was a major boost for the growth of the game to have an international brand like KFC on board at a critical level of the game.

"CSA has doubled cricket's capacity over the past 10 years and we are looking to accelerate this growth even further over the next decade," said Majola.

Keith Warren, the fast- food company's managing director in Africa, said: "We cannot begin to express how excited we are to partner with Cricket South Africa on this worthwhile programme.

"As a supplier to CSA and the Proteas over the last two years, we have come to develop a great admiration for the quality of the people involved in the game and their professional approach."
