WORLD 800m champion Caster Semenya has been undergoing medical treatment since January and will only return to the tracks after the results have been reviewed in June.

Athletics South Africa assistant administrator Richard Stander told Sowetan yesterday that Semenya was under the International Association of Athletics Federations medical team which had been monitoring her since January.

"They will check her progress in June and they will take it from there," Stander said. "It's a process and Caster will know where she stands after the evaluation in June. For now she is taking things nicely and she understands the process. Caster is a true professional and adheres to the rules and regulations of athletics. I was with her in Potchefstroom during the Yellow Pages Series and she was fine."

Stander, however, refused to be drawn into revealing the type of medical treatment the talented Limpopo athlete was undergoing, nor the medical institution where she was being treated.

Semenya has been on the sidelines since winning the gold medal at the IAAF World Championship in Berlin, Germany, last August.

The 19-year-old was precluded from competing in any official event until the completion of her gender verification tests.

Her lawyers insist she should be allowed to compete.
