PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma will be in Northern Cape tomorrow for the 2010 World Cup 50 days countdown celebrations in Kimberley.

This was after it was initially announced that Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe was the one who would deliver the keynote address.

Sowetan was informed yesterday that Zuma was roped in on Sunday night, which will see Motlanthe continuing with other government commitments.

Also attending the celebrations in Kimberley will be Local Organising Committee chairperson Irvin Khoza, chief executive Danny Jordaan and Safa president Kirsten Nematandani.

Today Zuma will be in Kempton Park to officially open the newly constructed Central Terminal Building (CTB) of the OR Tambo International Airport.

The airport was upgraded by Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) as part of the preparations for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

OR Tambo International Airport boss Chris Hlekane said: "Acsa works closely with Fifa to share data on traffic volumes around key games and venues.

"In Durban the newly constructed King Shaka International airport will officially open on May 1.

"Port Elizabeth, Upington, Kimberley, East London and Bloemfontein have all undergone runway upgrades and terminal refurbishing, and operational plans are nearing completion fort final sign-off by May 2010," said Hlekane.

"The airports are prepared to run 24 hours a day to ensure the smooth flow of operations."
