ESKOM has no plans to restructure or sell parts of its business as reported, and does not plan to reduce its workforce, it said on Friday.

Fin24 online news service had said the state-owned utility planned a major restructuring that would involve partial privatisation and a major shake-up of its labour force.

"Eskom is looking at standardising and streamlining its systems and processes, across the business. We have had no discussions about reducing our workforce and have not made any changes to our labour policies," Eskom's finance director Paul O'Flaherty said.

Eskom is struggling to raise R460billion to build new power generation capacity to meet fast rising demand in Africa's biggest economy, but the utility said a sale of some of its business units was not on the cards. - Reuters
