The project includes the large-scale commercialisation of mopani, which will be used to produce various products from polony and bread to tinned stew.
The Greater Giyani Natural Resources Development Programme (GGNRDP) had, in collaboration with the Limpopo provincial government and the Development Bank of SA, launched the project in April 2006. The GGNRDP will support the development of small, medium and-micro enterprises in the natural recourses sector.
The South African Education Research Alliance, comprising the University of Pretoria and Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, are facilitators of the programme.
Greater Giyani spokes-person Room Mdaka said GGNRDP was one of the key programmes in the municipality which was linked to the local economic development strategy.
He said though the municipality was involved in a financial crisis in terms of funding the project, he understood that the project would lure many tourist during the tournament .
