SO King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo of the abaThembu is content to be a South African after all.

His Highness threatened to declare independence in December. To the king charges against him were a "ploy by the ANC to oust him because he is not a puppet".

King Dalindyebo is appealing a 15-year prison sentence for crimes including culpable homicide, kidnapping, arson and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

He suspended his plan to claim KwaZulu Natal, parts of Gauteng and Western and Eastern Cape after receiving a letter from President Jacob Zuma. Last week the king accepted a gleaming German sedan from the government.

After demanding R900million and R80billion as a personal and the tribe's compensation, respectively, the king now concedes that half a loaf is better than no bread.
