Amajita impress Parreira

NATIONAL Under-20 coach Maqsood Chenia has been given the thumbs-up by Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira for the good job he is doing with Amajita.

Chenia and his charges took part in the Four Nations Premier Cup tournament against Nigeria, Brazil and Ghana in Cape Town recently. They beat Parreira's compatriots Brazil 3-2.

"Parreira came to watch the tournament and he was quite impressed by some of my players," said Chenia. "Auguston Leonard definitely caught his eye and so did Tshepo Gumede.

"He advised us that we need to tour and play more games and also visit other countries. He believes that this would do us the world of good," he said.

But Chenia is still to be appointed as full-time coach of Amajita.

"It is difficult and a real dilemma because I don't know where I am going," he said. "There are always good remarks when I enquire but nothing has happened so far."

Chenia also lamented the limited preparation time but said he had raised this concern with the soccer authorities.

"Next time things should be done in advance. It's not the first time this has happened because it started in Sedibeng (at the Human Rights Four Nations Soccer Tournament)."

Safa technical director Serame Letsoaka could not be reached for comment.
