IZAK van der Merwe is adamant he will be in the semifinal of the Soweto Tennis Open that is under way at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Centre in Jabavu, Soweto.

Van der Merwe, the only remaining South African in the men's singles, will take on Daniel King-Turner in the quarterfinals today.

Van der Merwe booked his place in the quarters after sailing past compatriot Nakala Scholtz 6-36-3 yesterday. King-Turner, from New Zealand, beat Filip Prpic of Sweden 6-2 6-4, also yesterday.

"I will approach the game with caution," said the South African, who beat the New Zealander in last year's Bela Challenge in Brazil. "I will make full use of home advantage."

Tournament director Gavin Crookes said this year's attendance had been a lot better than last year's.
