Student leaders at the University of KwaZulu-Natal have warned that they will resume strike action if management fails to resolve their grievances.

On Tuesday hundreds of students protested on the institution's Howard campus premises.

But the strike was later suspended by the SRC after it met with management.

SRC president Thanduxolo Sabelo said yesterday students were briefed about management's response to their grievances and a plea to put on hold any further strike action.

"After the meeting on Tuesday management promised to look into our grievances if they were given time," he said. "We have given them Friday (tomorrow) as an ultimatum or we will take to the streets on Monday."

Sabelo said management was already starting to fix some of the outside residences that students were not happy about.

The strike action came less than a week after Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande appointed a task team to investigate the Durban University of Technology where student protests resulted in the arrest of 69 students.
