Mogawane invited to Super Grand Prix

SOUTH African 400m king Ofentse Mogawane has been invited to compete in two legs of the Super Grand Prix in West Africa later this month.

SOUTH African 400m king Ofentse Mogawane has been invited to compete in two legs of the Super Grand Prix in West Africa later this month.

The Phokeng-based athlete, who is in devastating form, will participate in meets in Dakar in Senegal and Bamako in Mali on April 24 and 27.

Mogawane, who doubles up as a development coach at the Royal Bafokeng Athletics Club, will leave for Senegal on April 22. The 28-year-old has won all six 400m events he has run in since the start of the 2010 South African track and field season in February.

"It's a great feeling to have been invited to be part of the Super Grand Prix, we have six legs taking place here on the African continent annually," said Mogawane. "I was invited to the Super Grand Prix because of my current form; you cannot deny the fact that I'm on top of my game. It is an honour for me to get an invite to compete against the best on the continent. I believe they have also invited athletes from other continents."

Mogawane will use the event in West Africa as part of his preparations for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete against Jamaican sprint sensation Usain Bolt over 300m at the Golden Spike meet in the eastern Czech city of Ostrava on May 27.
