Council hits back

THE Nquthu municipality in northern KwaZulu-Natal has come out guns blazing, accusing the Sizakancane Small Business Association chairperson of being "anti development".

Meluleki Ndlovu had accused the municipality of failing to render necessary services to the people and lambasted it for shutting down the stalls of informal traders.

Municipal spokesperson Thokozani Nyandeni said the municipality was cleaning up the town and had not shut down informal trade.

Nyandeni also denied that the association had asked to march on three occasions and not been given permission.

He said before granting permission to the applicant the municipality needs to convene a stakeholders meeting, which SAPS and Road Traffic Inspectorate are part of.
