For more than 400 years the majority of our people have been maimed, not only physically but in every inhuman manner.
This reality, without any dispute, actually ensures that our country remains beleaguered and still considered to be a Third World dustbin.
The strained race relations - as further exposed by the gruesome slaying of one Eugène Terre'Blanche, may his racist soul be grilled for a while, clearly shows that this country will fail to reach its potential if we can't at least work side by side.
So all the well-meaning people who continue to exploit the wealth and beauty of this glorious country, must remain vigilant and guarded in protecting the goodness that is to be derived from each and every one of us - irrespective of our creed, colour, culture, religion or historical background.
The majority of our people have exercised their right to choose and they have overwhelmingly shown maturity in their levels of tolerance and patience and the absolute desire to share space and time in a country into which none of us among us chose to be born, yet wish to claim as rightfully belonging to one and all.
Over nearly 20 years of living with HIV, God has taught me through my pain - and the anguish of others - that discrimination, just as with some illnesses such as hatred, might not be curable - but we can live with it.
The greatest, challenge is for the majority to keep their eyes on the ball and focus on building this wonderful country that God has placed us in.
Our achievable vision and aspiration is to live together in peace and harmony as well as in times of pain, in times of wealth and in hunger.
We should all remember that many people gave their lives to make this country of ours great and it is beholden on all of us to honour their memory.
We cannot cure issues like hatred, but we still survive
