It begins with the industrial mining landscapes that have inspired the novels of Nadine Gordimer and the drawings of William Kentridge, Sam Nhlengethwa and Durant Sihlali, and moves on to the mountains of the Eastern Cape, where the stirring words of Enoch Sontonga and Olive Schreiner were born.
A Country Imagined captures many happenings in South Africa while also exploring the landscapes that have inspired many visual artists, writers, musicians and dancers for centuries.
It takes viewers through South Africa's most beautiful and culturally layered spaces and through these the documentary explores the rich history of art in the country and the thoughts of our society.
Clegg, who is celebrating his 30th anniversary in the music industry, combines a unique ability to learn, teach and perform.
In the series the energetic dancer and singer performs with musicians and dancers in remote villages around the country, talks to artists, both famous and unknown, and hikes around the Drakensberg to find beautiful rock art and inspiring scenery.
He also travels about in hot air balloons, helicopters and boats.
Clegg, in sharing his insight, expertise and a great deal of humour, offers viewers a rich perspective on South African art.
The series introduces viewers to local artists and their work, especially those who focus on land scapes. It zooms in on writers and artists such as Gordimer, George Pemba, Olive Schreiner, Hugh Masekela, Gerard Sekoto, Kentridge and David Goldblatt, who are loved locally and known around the world.
The show will also give exposure to people who make beautiful beadwork and pottery in remote rural villages.
A Country Imagined will feature the work of more than 400 artists amid spectacular scenery.
To commemorate his 30th year in the music industry Clegg, often described as the white Zulu, will also release a package album to mark this milestone.
