They appealed to people whose trucks had been stolen to contact their nearest police stations.

Tonga police spokesperson Constable Mzwandile Nyambi said five trucks were recovered at the weekend in Tonga near Malelane while one was found yesterdayin Mbuzini near Komatipoort.

Nyambi said five of the trucks recovered had been reported stolen at different police stations in the country.

"After having circulated the stolen trucks we discovered that two of them were reported stolen in the Free State and the other two were reported stolen in the Vaal Triangle in Gauteng, while the other one was stolen in Steenbok, Tonga," Nyambi said.

He said the police were patrolling the area when they saw the trucks heading onto the dusty road towards the border fence that divides South Africa and Mozambique.

"When the drivers noticed that the police were following them, they decided to stop and ran into the bush.

"Five of the trucks have been kept in Tonga police station since Saturday while the one found yesterday morning is being kept in Mbuzini police station," Nyambi said.

" We are currently getting details about the truck that was found today."

He urged residents to report any suspicious vehicle seen heading towards the border fence.
