Spirits high ahead of camp

BAFANA Bafana left for a three-week training camp in Germany last night brimming with confidence as they approach the final stages of their preparations for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

BAFANA Bafana left for a three-week training camp in Germany last night brimming with confidence as they approach the final stages of their preparations for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

The 25-member squad is determined to continue with their impressive pre-World Cup preparations after a successful four-week tour of South America.

During their stay at the Adidas Sports Centre in Germany, Bafana will also play an international friendly against China on April 22. Adidas is Bafana's technical sponsor.

Goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, who is tipped to be an automatic choice for the starting line-up at the World Cup, said they would make South Africa proud.

"It is good that we learnt about maintaining possession in Brazil and that the team is beginning to convert the many opportunities we create. Many people are concerned about our failure to score goals, but I think the appetite for goals is back. There is always room for improvement," Khune said.

Winger Siphiwe Tshabalala, who scored five of the 17 goals during their South American sojourn said: "We hope to learn a lot from China and the German Bundesliga teams. There is no turning back after a great tour to South America. We are happy that the team is beginning to play as a unit."

Recalled Moroka Swallows striker Siyabonga "Bhele" Nomvethe said: "It's great to be back in the team. I want to thank the technical staff for the confidence they have shown in my goal-scoring ability.

"The most important thing is to contribute to the success of Bafana Bafana. There is no player who does not want to be part of the World Cup."
