FORMER South African Museums Association president Rooksana Omar, pictured, is the new chief executive operations officer of the Cape Town iziko Museum.

FORMER South African Museums Association president Rooksana Omar, pictured, is the new chief executive operations officer of the Cape Town iziko Museum.

Omar who, holds a Master's of Business degree and Bachelor of Arts Honours , is at present director of the Luthuli Museum in KwaZulu-Natal.

Shehas signed a five-year contract and starts her new job on May 1. Omar has provided leadership on both a strategic and operational level, successfully delivering a relevant and dynamic programme while ensuring strong governance, compliance and unqualified audits.

She previously worked in senior leadership roles as the acting director of the eThekwini heritage department and director of the Local History Museum, Durban.

She has also served as a member of the International Council of Museums and South Africa's Executive Board and is currently second vice president of the Commonwealth Association of Museums.

With such experience she has proven that she has skills, expertise and knowledge, acquired through extensive and diversified experience working in the heritage and cultural sectors.

Omar says: "I am honoured to be appointed in the leadership capacity as CEO (designate) of the Iziko Museums of Cape Town, one of the two national flagship museums of South Africa."
