GAY socialite and 3Sum member Koyo Bala says he is nursing a blue eye after he was moered at the weekend by police in Gugulethu for no apparent reason.

An irritated Bala, who is on holiday in the Mother City, told Sowetan he got a frantic phone call for help from a female friend after her car was hit by a police van without lights.

Bala said he rushed to the scene, only to be confronted by rude police officers. They wanted him to stop taking pictures of the damaged car. He said about five officers started calling him names when he wouldn't stop.

"They tried to grab my camera but I held on to it," Bala said. "When they could not get my camera they sprayed me with pepper spray and snatched my phone, thinking it was the camera.

"When I demanded my phone back they called me a moffie and beat me up. They said there was no place for people like me in this world."
