Bafana players net camp cash

BAFANA Bafana players who were in South America for a month-long camp ahead of the 2010 Fifa World Cup will each receive R46720 from Safa.

BAFANA Bafana players who were in South America for a month-long camp ahead of the 2010 Fifa World Cup will each receive R46720 from Safa.

This figure includes the R25000 incentive for the 1-all draw with Paraguay that was secured courtesy of a Siphiwe Tshabalala beauty. The 29 selected players would have pocketed R50000 if they had won that match.

The incentives are for official international friendlies or competitions sanctioned by Fifa.

While in South America, the players also received a $100 (R724) daily allowance from Safa for the 30 days they spent in Brazil and Paraguay. The allowance adds up to R21720 each.

Cash-strapped Safa is expected to spend a further R10million for Bafana's training camp in Germany.

The players leave for Germany on Monday and return on April 30. They will play three matches against local teams.

Safa chief executive Leslie Sedibe will announce the names of the teams who Bafana will play in Germany today. Parreira will name the members of the team to tour Germany at the same venue today.

Sowetan understands that Bafana have also shown interest in playing a friendly against China or Finland during the tour. Bafana are also expected to play Argentina at home next month.

l In line with a call by Safa deputy president Irvin Khoza at the last executive meeting, the top brass were last night still discussing the 2010 World Cup bonuses for Bafana.
