SHINING star Johnny "The Hurricane" Muller joins accomplished mentor Harold Volbrecht after dumping long-time trainer Peet Bothma.

Muller, 19, will be managed by former world champion Brian Mitchell.

Muller, the charismatic fighter from Roodepoort on the West Rand, will also fight in tournaments that will be organised exclusively by Golden Gloves Promotions and African Ring Productions, announced GGP fight publicist Terry "Terrible Terence" Pettifer yesterday.

Volbrecht confirmed being joined by Muller.

"Yes, Johnny came here last week," said the man who has guided a raft of fighters to stardom, including Mitchell, who went on to become a Hall of Fame inductee.

Other fighters who benefited enormously from Volbrecht's tutelage include Philip "No Deal" Holiday, Mzukisi "Laciar" Sikali and Corrie Saunders.

Volbrecht's Hammer Gym near the Rand Stadium, south of Johannesburg, boasts top-name pugilists like recently crowned SA light heavyweight king Rupert "The Natural" van Aswegen, WBA Pan African super middleweight champion Thomas "Tommy Gun" Oosthuizen, heavyweight prospect Flo "Demolition Man" Simba and Jared "The Storm" Lovett.

Volbrecht just needs to calm Muller down a bit and the rest will automatically fall into space for the lion-hearted youngster.

Credit must go to Bothma for introducing Muller to the fight game. Bothma guided him to five wins (4 KOs) and a draw since Muller turned professional on April 1 last year.

Bothma, the former SA lightweight champion, manned Muller's corner for the last time two weekends ago at the Carousel casino in Hammanskraal, North West.

That was when Muller recorded his first draw after sharing the spoils with Wiseman Dlomo over six rounds in the heavyweight division.

In that fight Dlomo from KwaZulu-Natal looked like a hippopotamus at 102,58kg, reducing Muller to an ant at 89kg.
