The Nigerian champions will be in the country in two weeks' time for the first leg of the third round, and with most of their regular players out of action the odds against United staying in this competition have been shortened alarmingly.
Despite losing 2-0 to Mozambican outfit Ferroviario de Maputo at Mochava Stadium on Saturday, United advanced to the next round, courtesy of a 3-0 win in the first leg two weeks ago.
But there will be no respite for Gavin Hunt's lads because in addition to numerous injuries, they face the prospect of Daine Klate, Bongani Khumalo and perhaps others being called up for Bafana Bafana's training camp in Germany from April 12 to 30. But United's Anthony Laffor said they are not giving up yet, in spite of these setbacks.
"We have been badly hit but the available players are very professional. We are committed to winning all our matches, though it is very hard. Heartland will be a whole different proposition, especially when we travel to Nigeria," Laffor said.
United's walking wounded include Morgan Gould, Glen Salmon, Emile Baron and Shane Poggenpoel.
"I wish the guys a speedy recovery," Laffor said. "We need them and since we can't count on our Bafana players because the national team might call them back, we are holding our thumbs for the injured ones."
