THE Young Communist League has criticised King Goodwill Zwelithini for keeping quiet about a royal clan member who wants to marry a woman against her will.

THE Young Communist League has criticised King Goodwill Zwelithini for keeping quiet about a royal clan member who wants to marry a woman against her will.

"We are appalled by the pretentious silence demonstrated by the Zulu Royal House," Mafika Mndebele, KwaZulu-Natal spokesman for the league said in a statement yesterday.

The YCL was reacting to reports that Inkosi Melizwe Dlamini of the Dlamini clan was forcing Monica Msane, 24, to be his second wife.

Mndebele said people were waiting for the king to condemn Dlamini's act.

The Mercury reported that Dlamini's entourage, posing as lobola negotiators, allegedly tried to abduct Msane in a tradition known as ukuthwala.

"We have been bombarded by the conviction that all Zulus are the the king's children and pay homage to King Zwelithini. Why then, when one of his children is harassed, does the Royal House choose to be dumbfounded?"

Royal spokesman Prince Mbonisi Zulu said the king would not comment on the issue.

"The king didn't send Dlaminito do what he did, so we can't say anything about it," he said. - Sapa
