WHAT are the prophets of doom saying now about the one and only Benedict "Tso" Vilakazi after his performance against Kaizer Chiefs in the Telkom Charity Spectacular?

Do they still think he should go back to the national team on the basis of his performance against Free State Stars in the same competition?

Surely a single performance cannot guarantee one automatic selection to the national team ahead of consistent performances by the likes of Erwin Isaacs, Tshepo Motsoeneng (Santos), Dikgang Mabalane and Thapelo Tshilo on a weekly basis.

It is ironic that a certain daily newspaper always cries foul when a player from Gauteng (Soweto) is ignored by the national team selectors, irrespective of his overall performances, but are mum when a more-deserving player from another province is ignored by the same selectors.

It is time that our publications treat all players equally, irrespective of which province they come from or which teams they belong to.

If the same yardstick used for Vilakazi the previous weekend were used it would be fair for the publication in question to campaign for the likes of Mbongeni Mzimela (Amazulu), Mandla Masango (Chiefs) and Stanton Lewis (Ajax) to be in the national team based on their sterling performances at the weekend, notwithstanding how they fared throughout the season.
