THREE more female South African footballers have secured contracts with an overseas team.
The trio, defender Rose Jijane, Lerato Kgasago and striker Antonia Carelse, have signed three-year contracts with Iceland-based IBV Vestmannaeyjar.
They left the country last night to join IBV, who are currently in Spain on pre-season camp.
In Jijane's case, her break has taken a lengthy 10 years to materialise. In the process the 28-year old had to watch a long line of her contemporaries like Portia Modise, Veronica Phewa, Lenah Mosebo and Kylie-Ann Louw secure overseas contracts.
Jijane had a short stint at FC Indiana in the US before returning home.
"I am so excited. It just shows that everything has its time. But more than anything, I am looking forward to take my game to another level," said Jijane, who made her Banyana debut in Cairo against Egypt.
While she does not know much about her new home and its league, it is the challenge of having a shot at appearing on the Uefa stage that she is most looking forward to.
"I do know that the game is played hard and fast and we will learn new things that we will bring into the national team," she said.
As the assistant captain of the national Under-20 team, 18-year old Kgasago is a seasoned professional who has built her name not just in the country, but throughout the continent.
She was also an important part of Augustine Makalakalane's Under-17 team. He said: "I wish them the best. Lerato is young but has done very well for herself.
"She will carry on in her career having had a proper foundation laid. She has a great football brain, and is good at making the team play."
