THE Soweto Football Association (SFA) has applauded the City of Johannesburg for delivering top-class facilities for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

THE Soweto Football Association (SFA) has applauded the City of Johannesburg for delivering top-class facilities for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

This was after the muni-cipality initiated a workshop at which various sports bodies in the area designed development projects.

SFA chief executive president Phil "Chippa" Mogodi said they were impressed that the muni-cipality had made a commitment to maintain all the sports facilities.

"Mayor Amos Masondo and his council have come to the party in support of football and we now have a world-class facility in Soccer City, the venue for the opening matches.

"We may not have a World Cup match played in Soweto, but we are delighted that the teams will train at some of our facilities in the township.

"The municipality has upgraded stadiums in Orlando and Dobsonville, which will enable us to host international matches.

"We also want to thank Sibongile Mazibuko and her team at the municipality's Cup directorate."
